Rear Shocks
« on: January 07, 2017 - 10:48:36 PM »
I bought some QA1 non adjustable rear shocks for my big block 72 Cuda.

On the road the rear is still too bouncy for my liken.

These were $110 a piece. Should I buy the adjustable ones that are about
$160 a piece, to make a stiffer ride, or is there a stiffer better rear shock out there. I have ESPO
rear leafs that are stock height.
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

Spend the money on a good set of adjustables, I have QA1's on the front and love them, I wouldnt hesitate to buy QA1's for the rear, just havent yet. that said there are many adjustable brands im sure they are all good, just but adjustable for being able to set it up the way you like it.

I swapped out my rear Monroes for set of the Viking DA's last Spring. When I first started adjusting them, the rear rode like a dump truck and then I settled on the softer setting and it made it ride very comfortable.

I hope to put a set on the front sometime this year.

just found out from Summit QA1 does not make an adjustable rear shock for a 72 Cuda.
Will call QA1 tomorrow.
The only rear shock they have for me, the ones I have now, are totally not acceptable
as far as ride. I'm bouncing down the road almost.

If I have to, will go back to my cheapy KYB gas-adjust shocks.

70-74 should all be the same shocks, right?

don't know. the leafs may be different

look at order details for a 70 and 74 on Summit, and see if numbers change

Went from KYBs to Bilstien a year ago. Definitely a better ride. No regrets.

Hotchkis adjustable front and back, not installed yet so no feedback. Alternate choice.

Went from KYB to Qa1 single adjustable and it's like night and day. They also have double adjustable if needed.
