1970 Cuda 383 Auto Original owner documentation.

   New member and I need help!
 I have just purchased a 70 Cuda 383 Auto, Hemi orange Purchased in California originally by First owner.
 I have all his signed over title, build sheet, matching number tags ETC. I want to get the car in my name but want to document that i'm the second owner.
 When I went to get title changed they want to take the original title from me, not good.
How do I keep all the history for this car when they take the only proof I have that in second owner?

Make copies of any of the documents the DMV requires to take. Nothing else much you could do, other than see it the original owner would file for a duplicate title before you do the transfer.  Then you might have one to keep. If he won't then the best is to get a professional copy form a print shop or similar.

You didn't mention if you are also in California. There is always a way around the rules. I register my cars through AAA and they gave me a little advice about registering old cars. The last old car I brought in from another state into Ca, the guy said I was better off keeping the title since I was getting a new one in my name. Titles are lost by owners all the time s not that big a deal. catch is that it requires a VIN verification but AAA does it for me for free and it only took a few minutes. In Ca, a police officer can also do the verification but DO NOT take it to CHP under any circumstances. Those people will break out tools and sandpaper and go to town on your car to verify it.
