TTI X Pipe v H Pipe?
« on: January 11, 2017 - 06:45:01 AM »
I'm going to install a 2.5 TTI system on my 440-6, 4 speed 1970 Cuda retaining the existing factory manifolds.

My question is does anyone have any direct experience over the X v the H pipe from TTI?

I gather the X pipe is a better flow but what I don't want are any clearance issues or having the 4 speed trapped in place should I need to access it at some point. I see from the TTI diagram that both the X and H systems seem to be removable but wondered if anyone could vouch for one over the other?

Thanks for any help/comments.

My setup is the same as yours 440 4sp. I went with the H-Pipe and I have dropped my trans twice since then. I think the X/H pipe is more an owner/engine builder preference on street cars.

Thanks for the response.

I'm leaning towards the H pipe as the safer bet as it's tried and tested unless someone can tell me the X pipe will work without any clearance issues and they have one installed..

I recently went X-pipe because of the advantages and extra hp you get from the crossover.

The other benefit at least with mine, is the xpipe is directly underneath my front driveline. So if I had a u-joint let go the car will not pogo, but it will beat the bejesus out of the undercarriage.

I already have plans for a drive loop.

Have you looked at the X pipe on TTI's site? They have fitment notes right on the product page. Based on your signature, I think either crossover style will work. Personally, I chose an X pipe since they supposedly add more power. Also, X pipes and H pipes also have different sound characteristics, if that matters to you.

Thanks, yes I have looked at the diagrams on TTI but need to look again in more detail as I'm all for more horsepower as it all adds up.

What is the difference in sound if it can be described, just louder?

i have the TTI system on my Challenger with a 5 speed. I installed a set of header collector flanges at the muffler inlets on each side so if I needed to drop the trans for any reason I could do so easily by removing 12 bolts and drop the X or H pipe out of the way. I also have both the X and H and really can't tell any drivability difference between the two on the street.

X-pipe provides better exhaust scavenging and hence better performance because each cycle of the cylinder deals with fresh air and atomized fuel and not leftover gasses from the previous cycle.

TTI H pipe for Gear Vendors OD. It is made to clear a GVOD. Don't have the GV yet but it's on my list. The H is moved further back. It has a different PN.
I have had the A833 out and was able to remove it without removing or cutting the exhaust. That is, with the Bell still attached to the engine.

Randy good point.

GV wouldn't work well with pipe unless you moved it way back.

Now I have to look at another project I want to get GV for.
