Picture of installed Tanks Inc fuel pump?
« on: January 19, 2017 - 09:21:56 PM »
I have one of the Tanks Inc PA-2 fuel pumps to mount in the new fuel tank for my 70 Challenger.   I still have to test fit everything, but I was hoping someone has a picture of one of these pumps installed on the tank so I can see the location and orientation of the fittings for comparison.   Summit (and probably others) sell a recess plate adapter that can be installed on the tank to work around obstructions as shown below - hopefully I won't have to go that route.   If you have a picture of the installed pump I would appreciate a reply post with it.   Thanks.

My spectra just arrived today, looks beautiful, seems like a bargain for $250 shipped.

We'll see if I feel the same once it's installed.....

Sadly, yes.  Started with a plan to use a mechanical fuel pump feeding a carb, but I was seduced by the rebate offered when when the FiTech injection units came out.

can you return the new tank and buy a Tanks Inc? Seriously the tanks inc Fuel Pump install is easy as pie on their tank. I cannot speak for anything else.

Unfortunately, I painted the tank this summer before deciding to go EFI, so returning the tank isn't an available option.   I'll have to look at the options of selling it and buying a Tanks tank or modifying the one I have.

Can you post pictures of that? I have considered it, the tanks fuel pump looks pretty crude.

Nothing wrong with Walbro pumps.  Lots of people use them.  I have one in my supercharged G35 coupe.  Works good, cheap and easily found to replace if needed.

Yes.

I plan on using a marine style versus a float arm. Fwiw

The tanks inc is good stuff. I've used these walbro pumps in Hotrods for nearly 20 years with little issue. The only thing to remember is that they don't like heat. Try not to run the tank below 1/4 or so as the fuel is the cooling liquid. Do that and it will be a solid setup.

If you continue to run the tank to empty while daily driving the car the life of the pump will drop to a year or so.

Another great replacement is the Denso oem fuel pump from a Toyota Supra, which doesn't have the same heat issue as the walbro, yet more expensive.

I ordered the recess plate from Summit ($50) and will take a shot at putting in on my tank.  Based on the pics, buying the tank already set up from Tanks Inc would've been the way to go had I decided on the EFI route sooner (cue "If I only had a brain" from Wizard of Oz).   Assuming I don't totally embarrass myself on the install, I'll post some pics on my build thread when I get to it.
