Torq for spark plugs
« on: January 21, 2017 - 11:17:54 PM »
I see that there is a 30 foot pound spec for spark plugs... I just changed them and got them tightened down to "snug and a 1/4 turn" with a plug socket.   I realize that this could be a piss poor effort given i'm not using a torque wrench but how the heck would I fit one in below the cast headers?   Sheesh!

Any ideas or you think i'm OK to get the car moving around again?

I'm by far no expert, but I've never torqued spark plugs, I snug them then a skoosh more. If you have aluminum heads I'd use some anti seize and be careful on the snug to skoosh

new plugs need to go approx 3/4 turn once the gasket touches to fully compress the gasket

Hand on the socket tight + 1/4 turn. I've never torqued plugs and there are some out there that it's nearly [if not] impossible to torque.

I always have the plugs out when I lash valves and torque them the same as my adjusters since the torque wrench is already set... 22lbs here
