'71 R/T, Indiana
« on: January 31, 2017 - 11:37:56 AM »
Hi folks. Long time lurker, first time poster. Been a member on other sites for a while, figured its time to register here.

Got into E-bodies just a couple years ago. I had torn down my Road Runner for an engine build, and decided to buy another mopar to daily drive in the mean time. Happened upon a rusty B5 '73 Rallye which turned out to be the most-fun car I've ever had. Sold it a year later, thinking the Runner with the new engine would fill the void... it didn't.

April 2016 I bought a '71. I had wanted a legitimate '71 R/T but it had to be rough enough (and cheap enough) that it wouldn't bug me to drive anywhere and this one fits the bill perfectly.

It was originally a 383 auto, console, B7 dark metallic blue, black vinyl top, std black interior, and stripe delete. The fender tag is all but disintegrated with large chunks missing. Remarkably though I figured out all but three digits on the entire tag by looking at the partial codes, other tags on the net, and the original equipment still on the car.

Current plans are to fix up the structural damage, and re-skin the rear for a rough and ready daily driver this summer.

Thanks guys, I know some folks like to collect fender tag data so:

+ R11 R31 V68 EN2     +
J46 J54 M21 N41 N42 N85
V1X  U  C16 C55 G36 J25
GB7 H6X9 000 C1x C289xx
E65 D32 JS23 N1B 245843

The lower case 'x's are numbers missing that I'm not sure of. The scheduled build date is either C14 or C15 for sure though, most likely C14. Let me know if there is anything out of place, most of the tag was pretty rotten.

I don't want to be THAT guy, But A JH23 means it is not an R/T. JS23 would mean it is an R/T, check your dashboard VIN tag to verify that number.    :2cents:

Looks like a cool project 1971 Challenger
The 71 RT is rarer then the 70, as less were made and B7 blue is a rare color
Best of luck with the resto!
