1971 RestoMod Fuel system
« on: February 07, 2017 - 09:41:44 PM »
We are getting closer and closer to getting this rotisserie restoration on the road.  This is a number matching 383 RT car and we have basically started from scratch on everything we have done.  Unfortunately, during the tear down the "vapor-liquid" separator was tossed.  So I am now trying to figure out how to vent the system properly, catch fumes and keep fuel from spilling.

So I have looked at the 440/426 vapor-liquid separator ( P/N X868 on year one ) and an AC Delco charcoal cannister ( P/N 215-153 ).  My questions are how to hook all of this up to the 4 nipple vents on the tank and how to properly vent the tank.

The fuel line is already ran from the tank through a filter and an electric fuel pump.  We have 6lbs PSI at the carb

I understand that all 4 nipples are just vents from the 4 corners of the tank.  If I run the 440/426 separator in between the fuel filter and the pump I can run the return from the separator to one of the vent nipples.  I suppose I can just connect the middle two nipples together and then run the 4th nipple to the charcoal canister and then on to the carb.  Will the tank be properly vented at this point?
It doesn't seem to me that it would be..

Thanks 73440

I have this diagram and the one specific to the 1971 system.  I am curious though about how to run a different system.  The final post in the thread said that he figured it out but he didnt say what the solution was

Try drawing out what you propose on that original drawing and see what that looks like , if it looks like any pieces are missing or if it accomplishes the venting.
I only see with one eye at a time , no 3D , so drawing things out helps me to see it sometimes.
