Rear defroster - yes/no?
« on: February 08, 2017 - 11:29:02 AM »
Since my Challenger is now completely disasembled I am thinking of maybe installing a rear defroster. There were no speakers in the back and of course no defroster (images attached).

How hard it is to install? Can I buy the whole kit somewhere and what would be a normal price to pay for it?

(BTW, I live in the rainiest city in Croatia so I think I will probably need the defroster.)

Rain-X makes an anti-fog coating to apply to the inside of the glass.  I love their original windshield spray for the outside.  I have a bottle of the anti-fog but haven't used it yet.  If it works as good as their other products, there would be no need for a defroster.  :dunno:

The factory defroster would be easy to install and are quite effective, however I think finding all the parts in good working order would be hard to do. The aftermarket used to market grids (like a modern car) that you could bond on. I don't know if they still make them but that would be the most effective solution.

I have a rear defroster I could sell you but the switch and wire harness is going to be the tough part.

Can't I have a car electrician set it up with any kind of switch and wiring? I know it always looks easy when you don't know enough about the topic (like I do), but surely there must be a way without acquiring the switch and harness?

If you are not concerned with the factory switch, or wiring, then someone can wire in a two position switch for it.

i've used Rain-X anti fog on riding goggles for ATV riding and it was pretty effective. Rain X has made some pretty effective products and i've always had good luck with them.

I see the switch and wiring for sale every 3 or 4 months.  Keep an eye out and you will find one.

Easy to install.   Well worth the trouble if your ever driving in rain .

Well, I live in the rainiest city in Croatia (annual rainfall is 2021,1 mm = 79.5"; for comparison sake Seattle has 37", Atlanta 50"). So I would say it's practically impossible to avoid driving in the rain...
