I got to see one up close at an Air Force air show in southern california. they also did fly-bys. what an awesome plane.

Just finished watching this end to end.  Thanks so much for sharing.  When I used to live in Houston, I had a soft spoken neighbor who never talked much about what he did before he retired.  Then I saw his office:  wall to wall memorabilia from his career designing and supporting the SR71.  There are heroes among us. 

I've forwarded the link on to my son who works in the aerospace industry.

I'd seen most of the SR71 stuff before, this was the first time I'd heard more about Brian Shul I knew he had flown in other jets & I figured he'd flow missions in Vietnam..  I hadn't heard the story of how he'd gotten badly burned & the rescue from Cambodia by Special Forces.... I especially liked the point when the guy pointed his rifle at the helo & said "You either put it down or we will shoot it down"....
