17 inch Steel Wheel
« on: February 14, 2017 - 12:23:27 PM »
Hello,

i'm currently in the market for a set of 17 inch steel wheel, 8-10 inch to run a 275-45-17 on the rear with a 225-245 17 inch on the front. has anyone seen any for sale anywhere? i found the 06 magnum 17 inch steel might be close but i can only get them in a 7 inch wide version. i contacted dohrman and they have no other input for a wider version of that rim.

also for a 275 to clear on a stock suspension (air shocks in rear), what offset should i aim for? i'm guessing it would fall 4.5-5.5 (although i'm not entirely sure. i will not run wheel spacers.

also does anyone know if the dog dish chrome center caps would even fit a 17 inch rim?

i've read through all 72 pages of the ebody tire combos and don't appear to see anyone else running a 17 inch steel wheel. 1300 for the same rallye i have already (other than mine are 14's) is a bit salty.

thank you in advance, i look forward to your help!

Joe

17" steel wheel is probably quite heavy. Is there a reason to stay with steel wheels? I have not see factory Magnum or Rallye steel wheels in 17".

Personally I liked the looks of the body colored steel wheel with the chrome hub cap. I honestly don't see many or anything out there that i care for the looks of. I figured the steel wheel was a little more era correct than the modern styled rims weight isn't a big deal as this is a driver and will never be in auto-cross or any racing format. as for the 17 inch, i was referring to the Year One re-pop's they've been selling. sorry for the confusion.

I know i want to go 17 inch to get rid of some sidewall and a little tire roll in the corners. not to mention it opens the door for more tire choices.

YO repro steel wheels are up to 15" only I think. The 17" are cast aluminum.

If you are only running 275 and 245 on a  driver with S or T rated tires, just stick with a 15" set up. Any new 17" steel wheel will not have the correct offset to fit on your car without tucking things in to far and potentially hitting suspension parts. They also will not have the nubs for the center caps to snap on, so the whole small center cap idea won't work either.
