Not car but my LG flat screen tv took a dump
« on: February 14, 2017 - 06:29:19 PM »
LG 55" 7 yrs old..  started to turn off and on by itself.  After 3 days it turned off and on and blank screen no pic, no sound.

Found it is an issue with LG TV's. LG will not acknowledge it has a problem.

Cost to much to fix.  To many brands and models to choose from...................

I had the same problem with my 3 years old Sharp. Sometime the screen goes away at the best part of the show and comes back after. Otherwise works great and good picture quality. Finally I cannot take it anymore and replaced it with a Visio. It is a low end TV but figure if it last 3 years and no issue then I am happy.

I had a 13" RCA color CRT for over 25 years. It was still working when I junk it like 15 years ago. They don't make them like they used to.

I alway find it funny people think of LG as a good brand.... In their former corporate life they were known as Lucky Goldstar and had a reputation as complete crap.... Change the name & suddenly they are the new kid in town & are touted as a premium brand...

With the price of tv's you can't go wrong buying 3 or 4 year old technology for s killer price, and if it last 3 or 4'years you did well. At 7yrs you definitely got your money's worth out of that one.  Be a perfect garage TV now!

I guess we need a little more info on the technology of flat screen you bought.

I bought Panasonic's top of the line 50" plasma about 7 years ago. This thing weighs over 100 pounds. It has 4 speakers out the back angled to fake surround sound off the wall it is mounted to. It does a good job there...But where I'm really impressed is when I put on a music channel, I can really crank the audio up. I just need a sub-woofer to add some umph. It's a stupid TV, as it doesn't know anything about the Internet, but I love what I got.

I've had my Panasonic Plasma 55" for over 12 years and it's still going strong.

Color and picture are still spot on. I've looked at LED's and it has that weird stutter effect once in awhile which I don't like.

I paid a pretty penny back in the day but it has lasted further than I thought!

No, they don't make them like they used to, electronic components are crappy nowadays, especially capacitors. I'll bet you anything there is a bad cap in the powersupply, that or a cold solder, 2 most common problems. Cost to replace is cents, but no one wants to make the effort to check so they tell you its expensive and sell a new one. (I worked repairing TVs for 8 years before I got sick of it). LG is Korean, (Yes, former crap brand-Goldstar) Samsung is a little better, but all brands have the cheapest stuff possible inside nowadays. My 1976 Pioneer reciever still works fine!

:iagree:
Power supply is 90% of the problem in any failed electronics
