Dental question
« on: February 15, 2017 - 08:49:17 AM »
I have a tooth missing on the upper left side. I looking at getting a bridge put in. Has anyone done this and have you had any problems with it? I'm concerned about food particles getting in behind it and causing issues.

I had a friend who had a stud implanted in his jaw then a false tooth was attached to the stud.  It looks like a real tooth and he doesn't have the problems people with bridges encounter.  You might want to look into this option.

I think for some reason my jaw is not a good candidate for a stud.

I own and operate my own dental lab,and yes they will use the adjacent/abutment  teeth to make a bridge, and so where the missing tooth is ,it will kind of float on the soft part of the tissue ,so yes there will always be a small gap underneath, and over time the bone will eventually start to go away with age , and the gap will increase.

Implant or "stud " as you called it is a great alternative, because you wont have to use the adjacent/abutment teeth for  the bridge,  the new crown will attach right to the implant, they work very well, and if you need bone grafts to improve the area around the implant  that can be done too.

Cost depends on where you live, here in the west ,Colorado low end 3k high end 5 k per implant, but they actually last and can also be use for future restorations .

Hope this helps :)

While I know nothing of Mexican dentistry, are you sure that is a good idea? When something is 20% of the local going rate, I tend to question it?

Murray, a friend checked out the Mexican thing and there are dentists, trained and actually living in the US(Texas) who travel to their practices in Mexico on a daily basis and their fees are commensurately less. Another guy I know who's married to a Cuban girl, went to Cuba and the dentist used German materials and did his root canal for $60- all in and he's very happy with the result. Some food for thought, no pun intended.

Interesting. But with my wifes benefits and add on the travel cost and I'm not so sure. Now if I had to go that far to buy some more Mopar muscle, well that's a different story!

I tend to get dental work done in whatever country I'm working in. A couple months ago I was in Indonesia (Surabuya) and had a filling come out. I went to a local dentist which happened to be a nice young lady who was educated in England. With a teeth cleaning and the filling fixed I was on my way for 12 dollars!!
