Ignition switch problems, help!
« on: February 27, 2017 - 02:14:23 PM »
I have a broken ignition switch in my 1970 Cuda and when tried to change it I found out out that the previous owner had welded the the steering wheel adapter to the shaft so I can no longer get into the steering column to access the ignition switch.

My question is witch wires do I connect to make a set up where I use a flick switch for RUN position and then a push button for the START position?

Any Ideas on how to wire this is much appreciated.

Haven't messed with the ignition wiring in a while. I think the brown is start, blue run. So flick the blue and push the brown.

You forgot the Yellow that trips the start relay

All power comes in on the big red wire to the column

I have an extra 1971 auto p/s column, the knuckle end of the shaft has been cut off. but if you want to pay for the shipping it is yours. it worked but I wanted to get rid of the column shift. the shaft was cut trying to install unisteer POS.  (ripped it out and put in Firm Feel)

Should I run the flick switch between the big red (battery 1) and the brown wire (ignition 1)? and what should I do with the blue wire with white tracer (ignition 2)?

Blue is the Run power that goes through the Ballast Resistor so you will need power there full time.
Yellow wire goes to the start relay & Brown wire directly to the ignition during startup.
All power would come from the Big Red Wire.

I no longer use he ballast reesistor with the MSD 6AL ignition box that I run, If I understand this right I could have blue and brown on one side of the flick switch and the big red (battery) on the other?

Yup.
And the yellow starter wire on the push. Again, using the red for power source.
