Cam swap
« on: March 04, 2017 - 08:17:45 AM »
Going to take out the purple shaft and put in a Lunati 703 in a couple weeks. Never installed a cam before, been reading up on degreeing etc. Couple questions.
1/ What's an effective piston stop when you have the head on?
2/ When setting up you dial gauge for lift, do you need a special (solid) lifter?

They sell piston stops that screw into the spark plug hole.  Basically they have a bolt inside the "plug" base that you screw up or down to get the desired stopping position.  I made one out of an old spark plug and fine threaded the inside of the plug for a bolt but it would have been easier to just buy one :D

A solid lifter is the most fool proof.  I have used a hydraulic but it's a lot more tedious to make sure that the lifter was fully pumped up and I did not depress the plunger.
