Well, I finally went and sprung for a 625 Street Demon carb. After messing with a 750 edelbrock for 5 years it was time for a change. I have a terrible combo right now of stock headed 340 with a medium sized cam and 2.76 gears. The edelbrock had a stumble that I could never fix. Anyway, the difference between the carbs is night and day!! The demon has NO hesitation anywhere on the throttle. It is running as is, right out of the box except an idle adjustment. It hands down beats the edelbrock everywhere except WOT where they are about tied. Awesome investment. Now I don't need fuel injection.
Can't wait for next weekend when I swap in the 3.55s!

living in Michigan I still want FI. tired on the inconsistent performance depending on the weather and the troublesome/embarrassing hot start issues that come with todays gas and carbs.

For me, the $325 experiment was worth it. Better than the $1500 plus for FI. A guy on the hot rod power tour talked me out of FI. He said that putting FI on a real driver (I was 500 miles away from home in the Cuda) was a bad idea because of the custom parts. If a sensor or PCM on an FI Tech goes out, it's likely a custom part that is unavailable at a parts house. Even if a carb runs bad, it usually runs. It will get you home. Plus most of the parts for these relics are still available.
The Street Demon is available with a phenolic center. Supposed to lower the fuel  temps by 20 degrees.

Demons have bad rep. I'd go with Holley
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

You know that demon is owned by Holley. They did have a bad rap before Holley bought them. I had a crap Speed demon 750. The street demon is a different animal completely.

Can we now assume that all Demon carbs will have Holley reliability?

Glad to hear Demon has their sh#t together now.  I was one of those poor guys that rec'd a POS Demon carb back a few years ago.  It will be a while for me to trust them again especially with Holley still available.

It's good to hear that demon carbs are good now, because I'll be in the market for a carb for my 440>500 stroker pretty soon (Street/strip). Although I think I'll need a 950 or so. With so many types of carbs and name brands I'll likely be putting in a few calls, lol. The only other one I can think of is quick fuel. So thanks for the info, I'll steer clear of edelbrock for now, unless I hear something way better.

You'll love swapping to 3.55s. My uncle took his 68 charger and went from 2.76 to 3.23 and he loves it. I hear 3.55s and 3.23s are the most streetable, I guess I will find out if my 4.10s are too much, hahahaha (No highway for this guy).

Yeah I have had 4.11s, 3.55s, 3.23s and 2.76s in this car. The 2.76s were for the power tour. Can't wait for OD and 4.11s again!

Back in the 80's I drove a Challenger with a 440-6 & a 4:10 Dana from Central California to San Diego & back (1100 miles round trip).... The car can still go 70 mph turning 3500 rpm's... You just gotta know that it's loud, it's gotta have a good cooling system & it's thirsty.... But if the engine is screwed together right 3500 rpm's for hours on end isn't a big deal.....

On the other hand 2.76's are allot nicer on the freeway... But not much fun around town.....

How about 2- 625 demons?  There is a Charger with a tunnel ram done like that.

Yeah I might jump on the highway here and there, but I have the 4.10 dana because I see myself wanting to have more fun around town rather than going on lengthy trips out of town.

How about 2- 625 demons?  There is a Charger with a tunnel ram done like that.

Well first I want to close my hood without having a big hole in the top for the intake, lol and 2nd I already bought an Eddy rpm performer as well. So 1 big carb will have to do :)

Swapped the 3.55 gears in. Loving the demon even more!  Traction is a problem under WOT, even with 275 tires. I'm really surprised a carb made this much difference. The Edelbrock must have been pretty far off.
