1971 340 Cuda K Frame or not !!!
« on: March 05, 2017 - 06:26:21 PM »
I have noticed that most 1971 'Cuda K frame's I research on the internet have the sway bar going through the K frame and mine doesn't look like that at all. It looks like some drilled through the K and bolted the sway bar to it.  After searching the internet it looks like my car has an earlier B body style K frame. Can anybody confirm what I have. Thank you. If its wrong is the sway bar correct or do I need that too ?

Looks like an earlier than 71 B-Body k-frame to me. It's not an ebody k frame.

Thank you,
That makes sense since Someone added 1968-69 B body HD leaf springs (2539795 & 2539965) back in the day, instead of the 044 indicated on the broadcast sheet. So it looks like they added the K frame also. When I bought the Cuda back in 1990 (first time) it had a 1968 383 engine and transmission so it looks like someone swapped out most of the driveline and suspension. The 8 3/4 rear axle looks to be original according to the paint markings (019 & G). Looks like I need to place an add for a correct E body K frame. Does the sway bar look correct ?

Looks ok the sway bar brackets look like e-body just mounted in the wrong place. , could you post a picture of the lower control arm with the sway bar mount? That set up will " work" it's just not " correct"

I'm trying to get the car back to original so this won't work once I start to completely restore it later this year. Here's the best pictures I have currently.

I can't wait to start the full restoration, it's got some wrong suspension parts(obviously) and some frame rust I should be able to repair the rest of the car is very solid and should be an easy restoration.  It's an original Shaker 340 4 speed car in Tor-Red with billboards.

Well yes for the second time...I bought the 'Cuda back in 1990 and sold it about a year later but kept in contact with the owner for 26 years. The Day after the Mopar Nationals this past year he called me and said he was going to sell it and asked if I was still interested. So here it is the second time around back in my possession to get the proper restoration the car deserves and I'm finding all the issues and problems from before 1990 since the guy I bought it from only put 457 miles on it in 26 years and is exactly the same. I paid $400 for the Maaco paint job and it still looks very presentable.

I bought the car in 1990 from a guy in Kent, Ohio and heard that it was well known around the streets as a street racer back in the day, when I bought it, it had 1970 fenders and no billboard stripe with a hopped up 383/ 4 spd and 4.56 gear. I would love to know about the history of the car before that, The broadcast sheet indicates it was a international ordered car through Military sales.
