Purchasing at Carlisle

Ok. I'm wondering your thoughts and experience about purchasing a car at Carlisle or other shows. I'm serious about buying a 71' Cuda 440-6. I'm not looking for a matching car but still one that's very nice. Oh,... only interested in black and an automatic. This whole thing was the misses idea and this is what she wants. . I've heard the shows are a good place to buy. Is this generally true? I've got the cash reserved and ready to roll. Just need to find what I'm looking for. This site is awesome, every post really has been a huge help. Thanks

I assume you're looking for a clone? A real 71 440-6 in black will be a tall order... I'm sure there's a couple out there in the world but I doubt you'll find a real one at Carlisle for sale this year.

You may be better off just building one . . . as stated, pretty penny for a real one .  . .

Buying at shows can be tough. Most people selling their car at a show, are either not really trying to sell them, or are asking over absorbent prices for them.   You can get a good deal every now and then, but they seem few and far between.

I've been going to Carlisle for ages, and I can't remember a '71 black Cuda for sale. Let alone a 440-6.

Maybe you'll find one that you can fix up, or restore, or repaint, but you are looking for a specific car, that I highly doubt you will find there.

It sounds like you have cash. But I will say that I have used the on site Bank that offers classic car loans. The rates were good and it was easy easy easy. I forget the bank now. I want to say orrstown bank, but I can't quite remember. But they have a satellite office at the Carlisle events.

I sold a perfect 73 Cuda there a few years ago for a real good deal because I wanted to sell it to build the 71 black Cuda a bought that needed everything. The key is finding someone that wants to sell it as apposed to someone trying to retire and make a killing on it. In any case 71 cuda's never go cheap . But you never know. I'd be there all 3 days and keep checking the car coral and the rows of cuda's . You might get lucky.

A couple years ago, someone lost their money clip while walking around the Carlisle fair grounds.  That's 10K he'll never get back.  Be careful if you plan on carrying a lot of cash on you.

Last year they were looking for a bag that had someone's money in it for a car purchase - they lost the bag.

Hate to think that someone at the show would have stolen it....Mopar folks......finding $20 is one thing....$10k?   I wouldnt be able to live with the guilt amd bad ju ju sure to come from stealing someone's nest egg like that.

If it was in a paper bag maybe it just got thrown away accidentally....

If I remember correctly, it was a young guy that was looking for his first car and had saved along time  . . . I think it was lost in the bathroom . . . never heard if someone turned it in or not.  I would hope so . . . .
