Big smile I can't get off my face.
« on: June 29, 2005 - 03:06:55 PM »
I went down to meet Ryan_AAR yesterday and had one of the best times in my life.  I think he did also and it wasn't anything to do with either of us.  Let me start by saying I really enjoyed meeting Ryan.  He is cool dude with lots of parts and cars, just not enough time.   Ryan decided to give me a tour of his treasure and afterwards wanted to know if I would like to go meet his buddy Mark.  Being that I live 3 1/2 to 4 hours away and it was 7:30 or 8:00pm  already, I said what the hay!  Good decision.  Ryan's buddy Mark has several Mopars and some Fords  but he is like all us.  He just likes cars.  The crown jewel of his collection is a 69 GTX Hemi Roadrunner convertible.  OHHHH!  MY!!!! GODDDD!  The hemi was built by Ray Barton and this thing is all business.  Mark decided that we should all take a quick ride through the neighborhood and we quickly found out why his neighbors hate him.  ;D  (the headers were uncorked)  He did a couple hard launches and I can say that was the most powerful car I have ever been in.  He supposedly is running low 10's, but it feels like it could do 9's with a good hook up.  Afterwards, Ryan I were talking and he mentions that was the first time he had taken a ride in it and had a smile a bit bigger than mine.  That was because he said that GTX was one of 11.  I don't remember the specifics of why because I was just trying to savor the experience but I guess the car was in last months Mopar Collector's Guide and has the details.  I missed that one.

Anyway, a big shout out to Ryan and Mark,  THANK YOU!!!  ;D   :burnout: :worship: :worship: :burnout: :worship: :worship:  :wasted: :coffee:  :worship:

I apologize also.  In my excitement I didn't take any pictures.  :dontknow: ::)

I know Ryan said he has some and I couldn't help it.  I wanted to live through the moment and not pictures of the past.  :grinyes:

Seriously, I hate myself for not getting pictures.  :burn:  :banghead:

The car is a 69 Hemi GTX convert.  Its a original hemi convert, but the #s engine are long gone.  It was a Drag race car from its birth till early 70s  Then the hemi went to a Duster and the 318 from the duster went to the GTX.  Marks Family bought the car on a used car lot in the early 70s and didnt know the value of the car until the 80's.

Mark decided to return the car to its original design and it is Super Stock raced now like it was in the late 60's

Yesterday was my first ride in the car.  WOW it was fun.  BIG smile.  FAST FAST FAST

What I thought was sooo cool was that we were riding in a super rare Hemi Convert, that most any serious collector would drop a wad of $$ on, and Mark was driving it like a Hemi is supposed to be driven.  Peddle DOWN and hold on (to the roll cage!!)  This was No panzy ass trailer puff that wheezes and coughs....

Very sweet GTX!!!!!    :grinyes: :grinyes:  Thanks for sharing your experience with us all, HemiDog and Ryan.  Speaking of cars, later this week I should be getting a ride in B*tch N Blue once it's all dyno-tuned and ready to roar. :grinyes:  As it turns out, the pertronics conversion kit he installed in the distributor was the weak link. (for those of you who followed Mike's problems with it. )  Who knows, maybe if I'm lucky I can get a ride in a one of one '71 GTX Europe export car.
