Given the choice...
« on: March 08, 2017 - 09:36:47 PM »
I for some reason in the past day or two started kicking around the idea of doing a shaker on my '73 Challenger. You don't really see many people footing the bill to add that onto their car and most go with the Rallye hood which is why is intrigues me. Given the choice what would most of ya'll do on here? I currently have a flat hood in good condition. Don't have a Rallye hood so one would need to be purchased. So either buy the Rallye hood or spend a little extra and use my original flat hood and set it up for a shaker.

Shakers look really cool, but if you need to get to the carb it's a pain in the butt to get to.  Intake selection is limited unless your wanting a stock look. I went with the T/A hood for the looks and the height for my carb/intake combo. It's almost 5 grand anyway for a shaker set up if you have nothing....

Yeah as far as my intake goes it's just an RPM air gap, maybe slightly taller then stock?  :dunno:

I have also thought of the T/A hood as well. Who sells a quality one?

The shaker set up I found for a 340 four barrel is $2600 for a complete kit from shakerhood.com

 :iagree:
for the same reasons  the shaker is great looking but restrictive for air flow hard to work around & limits intake selection unless you really want to rework the base plate RPM Air Gap is definatly taller then stock but is a good intake . $2600 is a good price for a complete shaker
I think Year one has a decent T/A hood

$2600 gets you a kit... If your a skilled fabricator/bodyman you'll be at 3K if your lucky.. If your paying to have the conversion done you'll be $5000 easy... You'd be way ahead to look at an AMD Hood & trim ring  and Shakerhood.com for all the other parts....

Take another look at a T/A hood, sitting behind that scoop the view is awesome.. :2cents:

The T/A's do look good... I'm just not a fan of fiberglass, I'm not quite sure why. I've just always been about metal when it comes to body panels of any sort.

Since AMD came out with new Rallye hoods, you can find some really good deals on original ones at swap meets.  A couple years ago I saw one for $25 that needed a little work.

I'm not a fan of fiberglass either, which is why I had a steel TA scoop made. It's beautiful, and not too spendy compared to the shaker, but then you need to install it or have it installed. Still probably cheaper than a shaker in the long run. Shaker does look cool, though.

Did you have someone local make it or order it?

It was made by a guy named Domingo in South America, I want to say Peru. He made a lot of steel custom stuff back in the day; I think he was selling through Harms for a while if I recall correctly. I know he made a second one when he made mine, but I don't know what happened to it (that's been about 7 years ago, so it may have sold).

EDIT: I just looked and I do still have his email if you'd like it. Nice guy, very easy to deal with.

Here's a pic of the steel scoop just sitting on my 73 flat hood. Tony did a quick spray of primer just so I could see what it looked like when it came in.

Domingo Cicirello is from Peru, he was selling through Scott Harms but something happened so he then started selling through Rick Kreuziger  both websites are linked...

That's him. It took me about two years to track this guy down. Once I finally did, everybody said "Oh, Domingo, of course!"

He's a very dedicated Mopar nut...The metal sculpting is actually done by an old craftsman that he employs.... The man builds incredible stuff & finishes it to an amazing level..  Old world skills that likely will die with him cause most young men/women? will want to do such hard work.....

That does look pretty awesome actually! Harms just mainly does carb stuff now though right?

Scott does lots of things, component restorations just happen to be nice cause they don't take up space like a whole car restoration....
