It was because of the fiberglass hood.
So the regular non AAR Cudas had hood mounted antennas?

How does a fiberglass hood have any effect on the factory deciding to change a fender mounted antenna to a quarter panel mounted antenna?

A lot of hot rod guys use a standard extension antenna and hide it. I've heard of them putting it under the dash, under the headliner, behind a running board, strapped in the trunk below the package tray etc.

I shaved my antenna. I keep thinking about putting one of those wire hidden antennas inside my rear spoiler.

The more you read the more it seems like its a crap shoot based on how far you are and where the signal is coming from...

I read an article that the reason was for radio interference issues, I thought it was due to no metal in the hood and grounding.

The normal antenna is on the fender. The alternator and plug wires cause interference and static with out the metal hood to shield the areal.  It looks cooler on the trunk to call attention to the spoiler. It helps to add ground wires to both sides of the hood and trunk lid, if you run a two way radio, or CB and kicker. 10-9 (?)
