Rte limiter
« on: March 11, 2017 - 08:37:46 PM »
Hi Moparians,

I have a question regarding a limiter I bought for my 73 Cuda with a rallye dash. What does a solid red led light mean. I think I smoked the limiter as it puts out straight voltage from the battery. Not the 5 volts and the led is solid red. I have pulled it out of the car and run 12 volts to the ign. Lead and ground the case. It has 13 volts from the gauge feed side. Same as the jump box I'm using as a power supply. I've been to rte site and he does not have a key to the meaning of the colors of the led light. Just its supposed to flash green if working and be off if there is a short.  Nothing on a red led.

I don't have an RTE limiter so I don't know exactly how they are built, but it is possible that red indicates an 'open' load. IE, no gauges connected. O/P with no load could explain the 13v where it should be 5v.

or

it's toast.

It read 13 volts when hooked up to gauges. I noticed it when my gas gauge was pegged to the right. It all was working fine for a couple of years until I decide to get rid of my under dash aftermarket gauge cluster and use the rallye dash gauges.  During the process of running new sensor lines I inadvertently ran 12 volts to the oil pressure gauge. Smoked that gauge and probably the rte limiter.  But I thought the limiter was protected from dumbass mistakes.

Ah yes. If the gauges pegged, definitely a fubar'd limiter.
