Hello I'm new to the forum...
« on: March 14, 2017 - 11:33:35 AM »
Hi everyone. My name is Steve. I own 6 Corvettes but always wanted a Barracuda ('Cuda) since I was a kid and built my first 1970 Barracuda model kit (circa 1971-72). So I'm selling my 454ci Vette and already sold my 1969 Vette. I'm hoping the 2 sales will get me enough in the pot to afford a 'Cuda.

I'm looking to educate myself here among the seasoned Barracuda owners to make an informed 1970-71 purchase. I'll be looking for a clone or tribute car as I don't have a 6 figure budget. I've seen some nice ones on Barrett-Jackson under $50k...

Well thats me and why I'm here; to learn then own a 'Cuda or Barracuda.

Steve

Thanks. My first lesson is to know the difference between a 1970-71 Barracuda, 'Cuda and Barracuda Grande Coupe. Where do I get the cliff notes on that?

Welcome to the site and from what I know of the Plymouths, a Barracuda was the base model and could be optioned down to a slant 6, column shift and bench seat, while a Cuda was the hot rod version that many times came with the higher hp engines up to and including the hemi. The grand coupe was a rather gentrified version with things like upper consoles and more. wider mouldings and the SE versions had a fibreglass plug installed in the rear glass opening to fit a smaller back glass- and so on. There's many folks here who can speak much more authoritatively on this than I but there's my  :2cents:

Welcome! I have a 64 vetted myself but my real love is Mopars. I have a couple 70 Challengers but someday I'd like a 70 or 71 Cuda as well. I would think you could find some really nice 70 versions out there starting in the 30k range and going up from there depending on condition, numbers matching, options, etc. Add a bit more for 71 cars but they are out there.

One thing I do when I have my eye on something new is just google image the car I am interested in and you get to see hundreds of photos from all angles and in all colors.  You also start picking up see subtle differences and how they look with different options like stripes, wings, hoods.

I narrowed my dream car to a 71 Cuda 340 four speed in Sassy Grass green with a black vinyl top, black interior, and black billboards. I'm only a couple years out from hunting that car down.

If i was in your shoes and knowing what i know from owning a Cuda for 44 years my pick would be a 71 hemi cuda.  But price wise I'd settle with a 440.  Good luck on your search.

Welcome from Ft Lauderdale.    There used to be an annual Mopar show up in Vernon, CT  at Golfland.  The mopar scene is very active in CT.  In addition to this great site, check out Mopars in Motion,  http://www.moparinmotion.com/  for local activities

Yes I have searched and searched and can't find any reference to that show again. Last I knew of it was 2015, I think some weather event cancelled it(i think). If you know the next one let me know. That area is the weekly grounds for a all vintage car show every Friday. But the Mopar show has been elusive at least to me...
