With all of the threads in this forum about people that mixed oil brands and/or viscosity and had their engines blow or seize up, I'd be scared to do it !!!

I'd be more concerned about additives that didn't play well together than I would about viscosity.
That's what it is about mixing greases. About mixing oil? I don't know.

I have heard of engines blowing up when you mix different octane gas

I have heard of engines blowing up when you mix different octane gas

That's caused by starting a hot engine in below freezing weather.

A "little" info on oil. https://540ratblog.wordpress.com  FYI some controversy about his report, which was updated this March.

too much to read. A roller cam and synthetic oil is the only way to go.

So what about mixing oil with synthetic oil . . . Different?  :dunno:

No different than those "synthetic blend" oils IMHO.

I have mixed synthetic and dino oil, different viscocities etc over the years.  I dont do it as habit, but if I need oil and I am out of "my brand", I add whatever I have ...TRY to keep the same weight, but doesnt always happen.

GREASE is a different situation as there are different "soap types" (I think thats what they call it....) and I am always confused by THOSE.

But oil be oil. IMHO of course.

And this would be for our car engines....for some motorycles, where the clutch is lubed by the engine oil, it DOES matter what TYPE of oil it is.....as far as friction modifiers....friction modifiers will kill a bike clutch.

Last year I was in my Road Runner driving back from a wedding 3 hours away, when I noticed a bunch of oil smoke trailing behind me on the highway. I pulled over and checked the stick, it was bone dry. A valve cover gasket had failed, leaking oil onto the manifold, and I didn't have enough tools to fix it. It was late, and the only place close by that was still open was a Dollar General that surprisingly had some cheap motoroil on the shelf.

2 quarts of the cheap stuff went in, mixing with the VR1 oil. Before I made it home, another 1 and a half went in. The engine parts, cam, and lifters didn't care. The car ran the same and the mixed oil is still in there.

Stroker RB with solid flat tappet lifters and springs with 377lbs open pressure. If the engine didn't cost so much I'd probably just switch to the cheap stuff completely.
