Engine trans combo
« on: March 17, 2017 - 05:08:20 PM »
Hey gang, I suppose this is more of a poll than anything else. I'm posting this on behalf of my pop who is restoring a 68 Charger. I know it's a B body, but hey, its MOPAR and the questions apply to this group too. OK, so he's at the point in the resto where he's selecting the drive train. Hear me out before you type a response. The 440 was already built with this compression when he bought it.

Question 1:
I you were buying a NON numbers 68 Charger, how important is a 4 speed to you?

Question 2:
Would you prefer a 360 street engine, or a 440 that has 12 to 1 compression? The 440 runs OK, but could use some love. The 360 is a smooth running, easy driving engine. Reason for this exact choice, is we have both of these in hand at the moment.

Question 3:
If we went with the 360, running and driving in the car, would the deal be more  attractive if the 440 and associated bell housing were also for sale with it, for and addition cost of course?

Question 4: At the moment he's leaning towards B5 with a white vinyl top, as we really think that would appeal to the widest buyer pool, as opposed to a custom color that would turn some buyers off. Thoughts on that color combo?

As always, Thanks for your input!

For me:
1- yes, but it's not necessarily a deal breaker
2-440 for a Charger, but using the 360 and offering the 440 gets rid of the two engines also for you
3- yes
4-the darker forest green (don't know the code#) and a black vinyl roof- this is depending on the interior colour though
Just my  :2cents: but I do love 68 Chargers! Just out of curiousity, what's the car like and what's he going to ask for it?

1) 4 speeds rule
2) 440
3) yes
4) blue is boring. I like dark green as well with orange being my top pick. Orange in Chargers is a good resale color too. I like black interiors and I personally love black vinyl tops but that's risky since some folks shy away from buying vinyl top cars.

I'll go against the grain:
If your dad plans to drive and enjoy the car, 360 all the way.
12:1 440 will be a disaster on the street
