2-speed rear end - questions
« on: March 26, 2017 - 10:48:06 PM »
I am looking at another '70 barracuda and this car has been upgraded from a 318 to a 426 w/727 and the seller said it has a 2-speed rear end. He has a switch by his seat he reaches down and changes performance level. Now, I understand the high/low for performance and hwy, but what is it? Factory? aftermarket? who made them? Worth $?
I've never heard about them on a cuda and don't know much about them. Are they rare? or good to have? or not?
Thanks for your time.

I drove lots of grain trucks with them.
I am not aware of one for anything smaller than a 1 ton. If there is would love to have one. That be a blast with my gearvendors.
Its just a little 340 with a miss

Ask him if it is a gear vendors transmission upgrade. That sounds more like it. Not aware of rear ends like your describing. Certain rear ends have removable center sections so you can do quick gear changes but it's still an hour or two under the car.
