...The Heated Discussion...

I have my 70 Challenger/ 440 Auto/ Factory A/C with an upgraded compressor, new lines, new drier and new evaporator. We recently charged it and it operates fine. Question is- when it's off and I'm driving, I get warm to hot vented air through the AC vents.
What would be causing this? (I don't have manual vents on this car)
Not sure what to do, but summer's coming and this won't be comfy!!!

Its either the heater valve not closing or the a/c-heat doors not closing or sealing.

Have you gone through your heater box? Detroit Muscle Technologies sells complete heater box rebuild kits.
I'm not up on A/C heater boxes. Do they use vacuum controls to operate the doors?

A/C cars don't use a heat door, they use a heater water valve the car in question needs a new one... The clay 70-1 valves suck, they are expensive & they don't work very well put a 72-74 style on it... I used the 70 style bracket & bolted the newer valve to it after cutting off half of the original 72^ bracket...

So, you're telling me the hot air I am getting in the vents is from the water valve not closing properly? That's good to know, as I replaced it about a year ago.
So, I'll find a newer model.
I will have the A/C re-charged after I replace the vale.

Also, is there a specific part for the 72-74 valve? I notice it fits all 70-74 cars, so I don't want to mistakenly buy the same thing I have.
Lastly, what was the main difference between the old and newer ones?
Thanks

Below is a ebay auction for the 70 style water valve. It is identical to the 70, just updated numbers. Take the old bracket off and use yours. It is only $50 to your door. I bought one and it is perfect.

Did you try Rockauto.com? They sell the metal one and it looks like it works for 70-74.

I'm going to change to the newer version. I don't care about it looking "year correct", I care about it working...and in Florida, I can't have hot air blowing into the cabin.
I can check Rockauto, provided they offer a quality part.
