I was curious what can be done to a 426 block without pulling it out and still get appreciable gains in HP.

Camshaft, headers, better intake manifold and carbs. Easy to add 200HP that way.

HEMI's respond to traditional bolt ons real well.  Intake, carbs, camshaft, porting, headers....  All that stuff will wake up the HEMI a lot....

I was under the impression that the block would need to be removed for a cam change and i don't want to change the stock Lope unless a better performance cam can be had which wouldn't do that. Recommendations ?

I would only consider headers if it didn't change the stock sound. I love it. Are there candidates for this ?

I was going to add EFI for sure so that should take care of the carb and intake situation.

Yep, what the man said, especially since you don't want to change the cam or intake or exhaust or sound. You could use a plate system and get 125hp easily- BUT, do your homework on the fuel supply as one second of leanness could ruin your whole day. Just my  :2cents:

I agree on nitrous or maybe a turbo but hate to see a hemi change it's looks
My suggestion since you don't want cam, headers, intake is to spend some money where it's best spent HEADS
Have the factory heads worked by a true machinist and have proper porting of intakes and the intake manifold, proper polishing of the exhaust ports and have the manifolds ported and jet hotted since you don't want headers, then tunes fuel system accordingly

You can change  a cam in the car and most muscle car guys want more cam lope, so that wouldn't be a bad thing.

Forgot to mention it, but you should check out the F.A.S.T. guys and their tricks. They get bone stock appearing hemis to go like a SS car used to.
