oil pan hit k-member??
« on: April 09, 2017 - 01:23:13 PM »
Hi guys, am ready to buy an oil pan for the 360 gooing into my cuda - however I do not want to notch out the k-member in order for this to fit. The two pans I have in mind are the  Milodon 30941 (7 qt low pro) and the road race pan. Whichever one gives me least amount of installation headaches is the one I will most likely go with....any info would be appreciated - Thanks!!

get Milodon opinion also
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

yup, did that, and of course was told no problem......however I've read threads where people have cut 1 inch chunks in order for clearance....I really don't feel like doing that to an unmolested AAR if I don't have to.

well, If Milodon says no problem, and you have a problem, you would get your money back

would notch an oil pan before notching a K member.
Notched K-member might fail.

To me, I'm not sure why you would want a 7 gt pan.  Not really a need for one, and fitment would sure to be an issue?

point well taken and I don't have a good answer, other than "everybody" tells me NOT to use a stock pan (engine is a 360 block with 4.125 crank = 427 cu in, hyd roller cam, IMM max ported heads with super victor intake)....so the engine is not stock, maybe that's why I shouldn't use a stock pan??? I asked the same question and got yelled at by the guy helping me with engine assembly!

Most likely, they are saying not to use the stock pan because it doesn't have any baffles in it. An aftermarket pan will be baffled so the oil doesn't slosh away from the pick-up during accel/decel. I added a baffle to my stock pan. There is a write-up on how to do it on Hot Rods website. You can google it.

See if there are measurements available for the 7qt pan. You can compare them to the stock pan.

Put the 31595 road race pan on it & be done with it.... A motor like your building needs more than 5 qts....

X2. Yes, it is a cozy fit, but they go in without a lot of hassle. Then again, I've also installed 7 quart Moroso drag pans without needing to notch the K.

The drag pans  make the sump deeper. Not a problem during install unless you are installing the engine at an extreme angle. Road race pan makes the sump wider, so overall space is reduced, but again, fits in pretty well.

I have the milodan 7qt pan in my 73 challenger with a 416. I had to grind a very tiny bit on the k member, so small was able to do after it was installed as I never noticed it during the install. Might have been fine but figured with any flex it would rub.
