340 short block, J heads, 833 trans
« on: April 18, 2017 - 02:41:59 PM »
Need some quick replies if you have a minute.

I just agreed to sell my A body 833 for $50 with the shifter. He is also interested in my 340.

The 340 is a 1969 340 rebuilt with less than 1000 miles. Obviously anyone buying it would tear it down and check it out but it shouldn't cost much to put into service. What is a fair price for the short block (he doesn't want the J heads).

He wants the bell housing too. It's a small block 1970 version date coded for an E body I believe. What is a fair asking price for this?

If I sell the 340, I might as well part with the J heads when I go to the next show. The are bare and clean needing full rebuild. What is a fair price to ask for them at the show?

Thanks for the replies.

Mike

I knew I was low on the trans but I picked it up for $300 so I was happy to make something off it. Besides, he wants it for his 72 Demon and I really love those cars so at least its going to a good cause. He hasn't picked it up yet and now he wants to make a package deal. It's a craigslist thing so you never know if the deal will even go through in the end.

That's more than I thought for the 340 though. I got it for $400 so there's a little something made there if the deal goes through.

340 seem to be hot right now, especially a date code correct one. so I agree with 1 Wild R/T on the price, even a little more if someone absolutely has to have one for their 69/70 car.

I just saw that! haha...I meant I sold it for $450. Yeah $50 would be giving it away.

I grabbed the 340 last year because they are hot and I figured I might like to do a small block E body project someday. It's out of a 69. I'm a little hesitant to sell it since they are getting harder to find but I really wouldn't mind some extra space. I told him I will throw it on a stand and remove the pan for a few pictures. He offered me $600 for the engine but there is no way I'd let it go that cheap.

For some reason, he doesn't want the other stuff like heads, intake, adjustable rockers, bell housing, motor mount plates, etc but I can easily truck those to the next show and get my money out of them or sell the lighter items on here.

Thanks for the replies guys.
