I have a lady trying to sell me, or at least get me to pay for a 1970 challenger, VIN JS23VOB279378. I do admit that I always enjoy replying to the ads offering expensive cars for typically less than 20k, and stringing them on some. Here is the answer I received when I asked her (?) where the car is located:   
Hi,

Before we continue further please read my e-mail. I will explain how I want to proceed regarding our possible transaction.

As I stated in my previous e-mail, my husband signed a 5 years contract for his new job in Italy, Europe and in short time me and the kids will also move to Italy.
The shipping & payment part of the transaction will be handled by eBay Financial because their buyer/seller Protection Program will protect both of us.
regarding the shipping, due to our signed agreement with eBay Financial, the vehicle is located in their secured warehouse from Topeka, KS, ready to be sent anywhere within the States on our expense. They have in their custody both the car and the title signed for release, which has been verified by the eBay inspectors and they already gave the go ahead to begin the escrow procedures.
Regarding the payment, there is a 5 day inspection period available for you once you will receive the car in which you have the possibility to do a DMV inspection and/or inspect it at any auto workshop of your choosing before eBay will release any money to me. If you will decide not to keep it for any reason the car will be sent back to me (free of charge) and eBay will provide a full refund no questions asked. So basically I only receive the money if you are happy about what you are buying.
If you agree with my proposal, please e-mail me the following:
- your full name
- delivery address
- your phone number
Once I will provide your details to eBay they will contact you with all necessary information about this transaction (terms, buyer protection, payment instructions, expected delivery date, etc...).

I had chosen eBay Financial because in the next few days I will have a lot of problems to deal with (the kids changing the country and what comes with it, resign from my job, real estate agents...).

It sounds like he or she actually tried to be thorough in the details as there is an EBay store in Topeka, KS and they do offer a vehicle inspection service.  If it wasn't for the bad grammar and the convoluted explanation of their motives, this could almost seem legit.  How much are they asking for the car?

First thing I would say is . . . "That is great as I have family in Topeka that can look at the car now!"  Please give me the details as I want someone to inspect before I send any money.  Sure wish they could catch these idiots.

He/she wants $17,800. I emailed back that I wanted to see the car in Kansas and I would bring the cash with me.  There will be some reason that my offer won't work.
I reply to every one of these ads I see, which are about 1 a week, and my responses are almost exact copies of one another. There is no such place as Ebay Financial, so you know its a scam immediately, but greed probably gets them a check occasionally from someone who thinks they found a gem in hiding.
When they turn down my cash offer I'll offer to use Pay Pal, but that won't work for them either....because thy don't have a car to sell.

She said the car is in Kansas, so I said that I wanted to see it and I would bring cash with me.   Her answer was:

Once I signed  the agreement with eBay I must do the transaction thru them. I already payed the fees for that agreement. Their inspectors already made the inspection and gave me the approval to contact the buyers. I asked them already if I have a possible buyer who will want to go and inspect the car by himself and ship the car by himself and I received a negative answer. If they will allow this it will be a breach of agreement.
Please let me know your decision.

Next I'll ask for the Ebay inspectore report.

He/she replied to my request to see the Ebay inspection report with a 1 word response: no. That would be tough to do as Ebay doesn't have inspectors. I finally called her a few choice names and won't hear again, at least until the next ad pop's up. I wonder how many actually send $$ to these people?

Here is a link to another. Its a 70 challenger R/T, 440/6 pack. They are only asking $16,400, and you may be able to get it for a bit less. Well, you'll never actually get the car, but they will enjoy your money for sure.

Yeah, that's the same car that the OP was talking about.  Now it appears to be in Atlanta, which is great because that's where I live    $16K sounds like a fair price, I think I'll reach out.
