70 Challenger stripe options
« on: April 27, 2017 - 10:04:01 PM »
Been trying to confirm something but keep finding conflicting information out there.

If you bought a JH (non RT) 70 Challenger new back in the day, could it be factory ordered with any sort of graphics or did you have to go with an RT to get this?

I love the look of the tail stripes. Could you get a tail stripe on other non RT cars or was it only on A66 cars?

At some point when I finish my car, I'd love for it to have stripes of some kind to break up the color but I wanted to maintain a stock appearance and not look like I'm trying to create an RT clone. The longitudinal stripes look great too though so I guess that's not a bad way to go if they could also be had on JH cars.

Also note that unlike other cars the Challenger bumblebee stripe was painted, not tape. It was also applied before the rest of the car was painted.

Good information. I'll have to think about the whole stripe thing. I decided early on that with this car, I'm going to keep the original flat hood, standard gauges, and standard rear valance with the exhaust downturns rather than putting on all the RT items that are so common on non RT cars these days. Not that those things look bad, I'd just like my car to stand out from the crowd a little.

So basically, I could go with the longitudinal stripes without the RT call out and this would pass as factory correct in appearance. I always thought the tail stripe was classy and more subtle. What I need to do is shed my obsession with originality and just build the car the way I want. It would make decisions so much easier!

Thanks for the info guys

FWIW I've always felt the butt stripe makes the car look shorter & the longitudinal stripe makes the car look longer....

Good way to go. I'm building a 1970 T/A wanna be, T/a hood, T/A exhaust, 340 6 pk, T/A stripe without the "T/A" and did I mention this was  a 6 cyl. convertible?

I really love the TA look. Don't care for the side exhaust but the rest is a winner look
