Dimmer Switch Bypass Question - '72 Cuda

Hi Guys

I have a 72 'Cuda wiring question.  I had a bad dimmer switch so I temporarily bypassed it. I then added a basic on off push pull switch to turn on the dome light.  The intent is to have the push pull switch mirror the action of the dimmer when it's turned all the way past the rheostat.  As shown in the photo, I've run a jumper from the black wires on dimmer plug to the tan wire.  The jumper also runs down to one side of the push pull switch. The other terminal of the switch is run to the yellow wires on the dimmer switch plug. 

The problem I'm having is when I turn on the switch, I blow a fuse (misc. fuse if I remember correctly).  Is there something I'm missing with my bypass wiring, or is it possible that I have another issue somewhere else?  Note that my dome light does work when the doors are opened.

The dimmer switch deals with two different circuits, you are likely trying to combine them.

The dimmer switch, when turned all the way, creates the ground circuit for the dome light. Like the door switch does.

I don't recall which pin is for the dome, but you need the pin that has continuity to -ground- [the metal plate on the switch bezel] when it is fully turned. Your new switch will tie that pin to -ground- to activate the dome separately.

Thanks for the response.  That makes perfect sense.  I'm essentially providing power instead of grounding the circuit.  That should be an easy fix.  I appreciate the help!
