He is definately an inspiration to all and the best cyclist around, but sorry I wouldn't call him a hero, but one hell of a man with a whole lot of grit and determination ! I hope he wins #7 and then retires from the professional sport scene.

Someone whos risks there well being for others.  ;)
He is a great man, but people like Nelson Mandela who gave up there freedom for the good of fellow man are more herotic.

Lance is about a six zillion times better than his competition, it seems... and he's probably gonna make it seven zillion!

But......hero?  I dunno.  I reckon we all get inspired by his dedication and excellence, but it would appear that the one who benefits most from his efforts is.....  Lance himself.  He gets the yellow jersey, the endorsement deals, the Discovery Channel series, Sheryl Crow AND the "Over-Mauled" GTO!

I know he probably gives about a trillion dollars to cancer research and all, but....  my vote for hero would go to someone who makes a sacrifice for others, and winds up taking nothing for himself but a warm feeling inside.

I can't suggest a better alternative though....

What a lot of people don't realize is cycleing is a Team sport. Lance is the guy who closes out the races,  but his team puts him in that position and helps him save his energy. Lance is a great cyclist and from all i've heard, a class act.

That said, I'll agree with other here in that a hero in my book is someone who does something not for his own personal gain, but for the good of others while sacrificeing themselves.
