New Guy From Georgia
« on: May 12, 2017 - 09:08:41 AM »
Hey all!

Just bought a running/driving '71 Challenger and I pick it up memorial day weekend. It's going to need a little work to get it where I want it, and I hope to learn all I can from you guys. Not new to "new" Mopar, but I have zero experience with old Mopar. Used to have a running '79 El Camino, but when I took the 350 out 11 years ago to turn it into a 383, I lost my job and couldn't afford to put it back together. Life got in the way and it sat ever since. Instead of fixing it, I decided to get a Challenger. Anyone want to buy a rolling 79 Camino???

The car I bought was a base 340/4speed and sometime ago ended up with a '66 413 RB engine. Paint looks good, interior looks good. I want to add power steering, a new sound system, aftermarket AC, and power brakes with a rear disk conversion soon. It also needs a manual trans console. The purists will shoot me, but it's not entirely numbers matching(some fiberglass) and it's going to end up with a modern 6.4 Hemi in the far, far future. I know there wasn't a T/A in 71, so that stripe is going to be coming off and replaced with something else, because I like the orange/black look. I've got a few more pictures, but they're all too grainy. Looking forward to the experience!

Welcome!  Car looks cool!  At first glance to the unknowing, it does look like a T/A.  Cool thing is that your car is like a blank slate since it's been modded already and you can do whatever you want with it!  Just have fun with it and make it your own.

Welcome to the site. Glad you're finally getting back into the game. Great choice going Mopar. You just can't beat the way these car's look. As far as purists go, I'm ordering a stamping tool, so I can custom make a fender tag with my own codes on it. It will spell out what I think of people that don't like the direction I'm taking with mine.

:roflsmiley: Thanks again guys! I'm not in the least bit worried what people think of it, because I love it. Counting down these last 10 days until I go pick it up.
