340exhasut header question for the experts-
« on: May 12, 2017 - 05:11:24 PM »
70 Cuda project info needed-please help-

I have a date coded 1970 340 and want to use exhaust manifolds that will work properly since I have none-

I have read that stock is just as good as headers and will not drag the ground-

What part numbers should I look for in stock OEM manifold exhausts  for the beast?

Any info is helpful gents!

Speaking from experience,  exhaust manifolds will not out perform headers! Lol

The question begs to be asked, on a stock 1970 Cuda 340 how much of an increase in horsepower can be expected with quality headers over stock exhaust manifolds?

My car had hp manifolds on it then I switched to dougs like I said they are a nice fit with awesome ground clearance , I would  say the headers made a little more difference for sure but I honestly feel the manifolds sound better I love my dougs headers but a little tinny sounding at idle they sound great but if I had my time again I would have left my hp manifolds on for sure

The correct 340 manifolds are probably going to cost the same or more than a set of Dougs headers...especially if you buy the Dougs at Advance Auto with one of their coupons.

My personal opinion is that if you have a stock looking car, then stick with manifolds.(headers will look out of place on an otherwise stock vehicle)  If the car is modified, go with headers.(manifolds are going to look way out of place on a modified vehicle)

Yes it's all a personal choice hey mines stock looking inside and out even have polyglas tires ,  but I have a stroker engine , I think the headers are better in the higher rpm range for sure mine spins to 6500 pretty easily ,

There was an article recently in either Car Craft or Hot Rod where they ran manifolds or headers and if my ever shrinking brain is right, there was a more than 20 hp gain with the headers and that'll be felt in the seat of the pants IMHO.
