72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

My second car was a 77 Firebird with 301 - poor thing could lose a race to a lawnmower.

the 301 wasn't introduced until 79 you may have had a 305sbc if it was a base firebird

I don't think that's correct.  I'm pretty confident it was a 2bbl Pontiac 301 in my 1977 Firebird Esprit.  I'm far from an expert but a cursory google search has several references to the 301 in 77, like this one http://www.motorera.com/firebird/firebird77.htm
