Road Trip Tool Bag

I saw one thread on this and it was years old, so I'm starting a new one.

I'm planning a 1000 mile road trip to buy my car. Flying in and driving it back. I know shipping would be easier and probably cheaper, but I'm in it for the experience. I'm looking for suggestions/safety items I need to bring with me or buy in case anything goes wrong on the way home. I'm planning on taking a set of metric and standard sockets and their associated wrenches, pliers, a knife, and a screwdriver/bit set. As soon as I pick it up, I'm getting a fire extinguisher and a resistor.

Car is a 71 Challenger with a 413 RB engine and a 4 speed manual trans. Is there anything else you guys think I need? Are there any common failure points I need to look at and have spare parts available? Car has good tires, a spare, and a jack. Shouldn't burn oil, but if I notice that it does, I'll just keep a few gallons in the trunk. Last thing I want is to be in the middle of nowhere on Memorial Day weekend with a Dodge stuck on the side of the road.

Look at the belts & hoses... Throw a couple gallons of water in the trunk.. Bring your cell phone & AAA card.. Ice chest with refreshments..

don't bother with metric tools. nothing on these cars is metric.

We were going to do the same thing on a car we bought, about an hour into the drive the rear caliper stuck. So we ended up at a casino, no we don't gamble or drink hardly at all just had a nice buffet. We rested up then rented a uhaul and trailered it home next day, had a fun trip.

Here is a list started elsewhere, it just keeps growing. Getting a little ridiculous. Gotta admit AAA, phone and water would do it.

AAA card, cell phone and phone charger.
Fire extinguisher
Small Basic tool kit, sockets, screw drivers, vise grips, gloves, duct tape, flashlight.
Tire plug kit
Small 12V air compressor
Fix a flat
Ballast resistor
Ignition control box ecu
Voltage regulator
For SB water pump bypass hose
Fuses
Cooler/water for yourself and car if needed
Radiator stop leak
Depending on season and local a blanket/thermal blanket.
Ratchet straps/tie downs....
Oil
Zip ties
Bailing wire
Fan and PS belt
DEI Quick fix tape
Jumper wire
Traffic reflector safety light

I think cudakillers list is about all you could do on the side of the road. I drove my 71 Cuda 600 miles to the goodguys show and my friend trailered  his Chevelle just incase of a breakdown. Well his truck towing his car broke and we both drove our classics back and forth with no problems. So much for new vehicles .
