About halfway down the thread are pictures of an Ammco brake shoe grinder.

It's called "arcing the shoes" Back in the early seventies & before it was common practice, when all the info about asbestos came out most of the arcing of shoes stopped & the most shops equipment got scrapped...  The compounds for shoes changed, the asbestos is gone but even today very few shops arc shoes... Upgrading to discs eliminates the problem....

if both fronts are adjusted to about the same drag and you are pulling id say you have a brake hose issue, pretty easy test, spin both front wheels with car hoisted, press the brake pedal and hold for a moment then release if one wheel releases slower than the other or remains with excessive drag then you hose is bad, easier with a helper to hold and release while you spin wheels

New Shoes fixed it.   I was sure they cleaned up to look like new but obviously I was wrong.

It wasn't that I didn't want to spend the money I just think the old ones are better.  I guess you just can't go by looks.

thanks everyone
