'73 Cuda Trunk weatherstripping problem
« on: July 04, 2005 - 06:47:37 PM »
:???:  I bought some weatherstripping from local reproduction parts co. and its not right.  The trunk will not close without extreme force.  They say that they have sold this stuff for years with no problems.   I got a sample off of an old car at a junk yard and sent it to them and they can't match it up with anything they carry which explains my problem.  The old stuff is thinner and collapses to a much thinner thickness while the new stuff does not.  I attached photos of the old (left) and new (right).  I would like to buy the right stuff next time.  Has anyone purchased something that they have had success with?

 :driving:
The trunk seal that I ordered from Year One for my wife's '73 was too hard and the trunk wouldn't close... at all.
I had an extra one for my '71 and went ahead and installed it and it worked fine.
Doesn't leak and the trunk shuts fine.  Might leak at high speeds though...hope I don't find out.
