71' Cuda OE Rocker Organisol paint

Curious, how come you rarely, if ever, see Organisol paint below the rocker trim on all these 71' Cuda restorations ? From what I've been reading, that was OE on all but a few dark colored cars. Was it an option to delete this treatment ?

There were only 3 to 5 colors in each of the F and G style that were supposed to have the black be omitted... Can't remember where I got this, but this may help...

That detail refers to the rocker "pinch weld" blackout.  I believe the OP is referring to the rocker blackout below the trim on 71 Cudas specifically.

Can't answer why you aren't seeing it on "restored" cars.  Maybe the owners didn't know it was supposed to be there.  Maybe they didn't like the look of it.  The factory did it very sloppy.  It's actually kind of ugly how they did it IMO.  The trim doesn't span all the way from wheel well trim to wheel well trim.(there is a gap at the ends) You see an ugly paint line in front of and behind the trim.

Here's a really sloppy one.

it looks to me like the molding curves up...For a proper restoration it needs to be there.

:iagree: If you have done a 100 point or a total 100% restoration .Its should go back on. But IMO i donot like them the 70 fish panel is a much better look . :2cents:

The molding doesn't slope up. I think it's just the angle of the picture that makes it look like that. The detail shows the tape line should go through the center of the molding holes. The factory just got really sloppy on that one.
