locking up distributor ?

hi again everybody I need some advice I ordered a distributor for my 340 as my old ones junk anyhow its turned up but its got  no vac advance or weights etc he said you run total timming all the time , do I used it or get a normal one , would it be hard to start on full timming when its hot,  hard on my starter motor and what about detonation etc  , happy to use it but don't want dramas that's all . im sure it would have good throttle response and burn gas nice ?, its a genuine mopar  dizzy  that's been worked over and cleaned up it looks nice really stock looking with tan cap

Get rid of it, you need vacuum advance for a street car

you don't need vacuum advance for a street car, especially a muscle car, unless its
your daily driver.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

Completely not true, only time you don't need vacuum advance is if your at WOT where there is no vacuum.
Why give up the benefit of more efficient combustion during 90% of your driving?

Vacuum advance is another black hole. Go to the track, and you'll see that most of the fast cars have it plugged, or have a distributor that’s not even equipped with it. But you need it for the street! 100%! Always! In fact, the more the better.

its only a week end car , would total timming make it run hot, it would have nice throttle response , but yeah if I could swap it I would but I cant so trying to talk myself into using it lol

Vacuum helps also..when you need a lot of timing @ idle...  you can use Manifold Vacuum..and gain 10-14 deg. more timing

yes I think for a street car , its makes 300 hp at the treads so it goes well but yeah sounds like its more fore racing than the street locking up the dizzy , I might just get a nice vac advance unit I think , msd is nice but have a shaker on it and cant run anything to tall , cheers guys

seems a lot of MSD distributors don't come with vacuum advance.
And do I need it if my AFR is dialed in properly.
Also, my car is quicker when I smash the throttle without vacuum advance hooked up, as I found
out when I had vacuum advance.
Also less chance of engine knock when I floor it.
