Orange box and coil questions

Hi guys and girls need some advise ok so when a orange ecu box fails and a coil it litterly fails hey, sometimes my car will just stop now and then and starts again I read that if the box is not grounded good can cause this I bare metalled alittle part where it bolts onto the fire wall and ruffed up the part on the box to this should be ok hey ,I heard of people using a ground wire is that a better way , a distributor wouldn't cause it hey

Do you have the box mounted directly on the firewall or do you have it mounted on the factory stand-off bracket? The bracket allows airflow behind the box for better cooling.  A bad coil can get hot and shut the car off. Once it cools, the cars could start again.

Does the car start right back up once it dies? You need to do some testing when it dies the next time. Check that you have power on the blue wire that comes from the ignition switch. Test it on either side of the ignition switch connector. Wiggle the connector around and make sure the connection is good. If that tests ok, move to the bulkhead connector and test on both sides of it. Move your way to the ballast resistor. The blue wire should have power in the "run" position.

Hi mate yeah It starts up again straight away umm the box is just mounted to my firewall , doesn't brake down under load a little when cold but warms up and goes to 6500 without any miss pulls strong , they usually miss when hot but mines doesn't  hey so those boxs when they play up they won't start they just die do they ???are those reva nators  any good

Our resident GURU Chryco Psycho often suggests checking the reluctor gap in the distributor under these situations
Gap should be .oo8 between the pick up & reluctor Use a non-magnetic feeler gauge for this, or unplug the distributor before checking the air gap. The pickup coil should check with 150-900 ohms of resistance

Ok will do I'm just about to try another distributor a mopar guru over in the USA builds them you probley know him rick ehrenberg he sets  them up for a good street curve seems like a nice enough guy had a awesome ebay feedback so see how I go I'll try your  gurus  advice  as well seems to know his stuff just by reading his posts and   what you guys  said as well  and just double check everything it's probley something silly it goes to well really to be something really bad , just sitting at the lights idling just stops now and then and even driving as well , do I need a factory bracket to mount the orange box I just bolted it to the firewall I ground some paint off (wasn't happy it's all nice fresh paint can't see it when box is back on ) but yeah ohh well thanks mate

Heat is a killer for electronics, wouldn't hurt to use the bracket for mounting.
It allows airflow around the ECU.

Ok that's pretty basic I'll make one , so when those boxs play up they just stop hey no intermediate problems hey , I read a lot of bad things about them what's a revinator like sorry to be a pain everybody I'm sure these questions have been asked but yeah it's good to talk to people who honestly know

This goes back to the late 80's. When my orange box started to act up (play up) the car would stall and not re-start until a cool down period. It was replaced with a black one and running fine since.

Their website now says they use a FireCore distributor.
It does well and was an easy install other than the wiring connection to the dual ballast resistor I had to do .

Currently using MSD 8222 coil, have the Rev N Nator coil also.
I was in the process of installing the MSD 6AL , had installed the MSD coil, then switched to the Rev N Nator and as long as it's running well did not want to switch coils.

I am sure shipping is too expensive , I have a brand new MSD 6AL box and MSD distributor  for 440, although 6 weeks ago I could have sent it back your way with my sister who was visiting from Tasmania.

If you might be interested in the MSD system for 440, I can check shipping costs.

Your trouble now is with the 340 , is that correct? Thought from your screen name was 440, .

ok cool your in Tassie , ummm yes my cars a factory 340 4 speed cuda , its a stroker engine , I have a 440 im slowly building up so I plan to sell the 340 and put a big block in it ,my plates say cam 440 because they were off my old 70 rt challenger that was a 440 car, I love the small block but yeah love a big block more im in no huge hurry so im happy keep the 410 in it shame goes really well but gets this little problem now and then .yeah just got a price on the revinator and coil by the time I do the dollar exchange etc and shipping gonna be around 450 wow , that coil do you run a resister with it I have had bad luck with blaster 2 coils , no the ready to run was in my xy 351 Fairmont , is your coil upright or on its side im told blasters hate being on there side

I am in Texas, sister in Tassie.
The MSD 8222 coil can be mounted in any position as it is epoxy filled, mine is mounted horizontal.
