Undercarpet insulation? Dynamat?

Hi Guys,
how do you insulate your car? (Heat / Sound / Vibrations)
I have read that some guys use Dynamat Xtreme... is that a good option?
Did cars come out from factory with insulation?

in the early 70's under carpet insulation was pretty basic & not very effective.....

I use/like/prefer DEI U/C Lite...

I used Dynamat. I bought it from Classic Industries during a holiday sale. I cut each of the sheets provided into 3 sections to make it easier to handle and also used a heat gun on low setting and a small wooden roller to get it into all the curves etc. I also laid Reflexic on top of the Dynamat which can be purchased real cheap at any Home Depot etc. It was taped down using the same metalic tape used for Celotex insulation.

I ordered 2 sets of this, supposed to be as good as Dynamat, but not as expensive. I saw others use it on the forums. Haven't gotten it yet though.

I have used Dynamat Xtreme on three cars.  Insulated from top of fire wall to rear hat rack and door sill to door sill. Yeah, Nordstrom pricing but Nordstrom quality. Odorless on a hot day unlike the insulation sold by some hardware stores.

I'm cheap !!   

First I used spray on "boom mat" noise insulating undercoating...   2 cans for $26...  bought on ebay...  more than enough to do the roof, and floor.   Next I bought and layed in "conventional" carpet pad that I bought at home depot...   I think is was like $28 for a roll large enough to cover the entire floor.  Cut it to fit...made the floor nice and thick!!

Seems to work well...As to sound...hard to tell when using Flowmaster 40's for my mufflers, and as far as heat is concerned...   seems like the combo of the two keep the floor from getting hot.

I used Hushmat on my entire floor......one box did the job, had some left over as  I recall.

Fat Mat Mega Mat, everywhere. Made a huge difference in sound and heat as I run headers and flow master 40's. Wife is happy as we can have a conversation as long as the motor is below 5K rpm, after that I cannot I hear her yelling at me to slow down.

I used dynamite and the carpet had a pad glued to the underside.  I think it works great, but then again I have a vert.
Nothing rattles though

Does all this insulation do any good on a convertible? You can insulate the entire car but your still going to get a lot of noise from the soft top.

When you insulate the firewall, are you omitting the factory insulation or are you still installing it on top of the Dynamat?

How much Dynamat did you use?

My plan is to do the same thing you did and I bought 3 bulk packs of Dynamat Xtreme. Will that be enough or I need more?

I used the dynomat on entire floor. I went up the firewall as far as the carpet would hide. I didn't do the trunk, I think.
I will go through my picts and post some soon.
The dynomat does help with the heat from under floor pan and also takes away any vibration or rattles. I always drive with top down so theres always wind noise, but the car seems solid, especially when closing doors.

I insulated for heat, noise reduction was an added benefit.... Where I live it often gets into the upper 90's & over 100 isn't uncommon... Driving with the top down & heat coming through the floor & firewall wasn't much fun....  I used DEI Boom Mat Under Carpet Lite... In the car the difference is amazing, previously on a hot day after running for more than an hour the floor & firewall were so hot your feet were very uncomfortable & the heat obviously radiates upward....   Now 2-3 hours into driving & the floor & firewall a cool to the touch... Now on a 100 plus degree day when I put the top up & turn on the A/C it actually gets pretty cool(mid-low 70's) inside, before it struggled to hit 85 degrees on a 100 degree day...
