dome light mounting
« on: July 17, 2017 - 11:56:56 AM »
kind of a dumb question, but where and what direction does the dome light assembly get mounted to the roof inner cross  beam?  as always pics would be the best. 71 cuda.
furthermore where do the wires from this get routed?

On my Challenger, there are two places where the light can mount.(front side of the cross beam and back side)  Have a look at the holes in your car and see if you can see where screws have been mounted previously.  On mine, you could tell that screws had been installed on one side and not the other.

I ran the wiring across the beam and into the roof structure.  There were one or two clips that held the wiring to the roof beam.  Then, the wiring came out under the rear interior panels and connected into the tail light harness in the wheel well area.

I don't know, that's why I said to look at yours...didn't want to tell you wrong.  There has to be a reason there are two different mounting locations.  Maybe one for Challenger and one for Barracuda?  :dunno:

My only other thought is that they put two sets of mounting holes on the cross beam so it could be installed in either direction.  If there are holes on the front and back, it doesn't matter which way the beam is installed.  It would be a PITA to have to replace a cross beam that was installed backwards.

Maybe the other set of holes is for the cars with the ceiling console lights.  :dunno:
