    Aftermarket gauges for old geezers

    When I first got the car running 8 years back, the first thing I did was throw in a set of cheap Summit analog gauges.

    White letters, red (or is it white?) needle on a black background.

    Figured that would be easy to see.

    They have worked well.... oil (wet style), voltage and temp.

    Located hanging under the dash above the hump.

    In the daytime they are easy enough to see.

    But at night, I am having issues seeing them.  Especially the needle.

    Even my dash gauges/speedo) are hard to see.....I added an LED strip above the dash to bolster the stock blue green bulbs.....that helps but even that could be brighter truth be told.

    Anyone have any favorites or feedback on what gauges I can swap into the summit bezel or replace altogether that wouldb e easier to see at night? Lighted needle would be good.....or maybe I should go to an LED number readout?

    Speedhut makes nice stuff, but you definitely pay for it. These have dedicated needle lighting and backface lighting. They do very well in the dark.


    That's just shy of a grand worth of gauges and that's at their 30% off Black Friday deal prices.

    I have Dakota Digital on my car and I'm happy with them. They cost just under $1000 and come with everything you need for installation.

    The Dakota Gauges look great. Expected  with Nordstrom pricing. LOL. I noticed the amp gauge is eliminated for a safer volt gauge. Are all the gauges 12 volt and wired independently... no voltage limiter, no daisy weaving, separate grounds, etc?

    I'm guessing your tach with the small speedo was a big part of that?  Cause I got a six gauge set with a 3 3/8 speedo & tach, 2 1/8 oil water fuel & volt, back lit, glowing needles, etc all in it was around $450....  Course that was back in 2012....

    These are all 270° sweep gauges with warning lights. There's another $20 in the 3D printed tach mount too.

    Shad,
    I used Dakota's for my car.  I looked on Ebay and got them for $850 complete set.  Only issue is they are based on the Rallye type gauges and I had non-Rallye.  I had a friend who had bezels and wood grain for another $200, so my all in price was about $1100 overall.  Would I do it again - heck yes, they slid right in and there are many other features like turn signals, warning lights, and shift lights.  The weak part to my car is the wiring, so I started upgrading my factory harness and my car started from as general basket case.  The Dakota dash was a perfect fit, if I ever do hidden wiring, this will be a great and easy to leverage all the other goodies on the system.
