Flip gas cap fitment issue
« on: July 19, 2017 - 06:56:30 AM »
So what did I do wrong here? Car is a 70 Challenger RT.  Obviously fitment is terrible.

Original or aftermarket quarters?  I've read about some people having issues with fitment on aftermarket quarters.  Something about the depth of the filler hole.

I don't think thats his issue, the trim ring fits allot closer than the cap..... The cap looks twisted.... Plus I don't see a screw in the one visible hole....

Take a photo with the cap flipped open looking down the fill pipe...

Almost looks like pivot pin is busted on side closest to camera... or hinge is busted?

You didn't use that hydraulic pump/cylinder lift in background to open the gas cap, did you???

 :stirpot:

Could be the pot-metal hinge holes on cap are worn... doesn't look like either side sits down as close to body as they should... left side doesn't look connected (see previous post)...

Looks like the hinge is broke on one side. The pin is visable on the bottom.

Have not figured it out yet.  Ran into a more pressing issue.  K-frame and power steering coupler that came with the car was damaged.  Of course didn't notice until after I put the engine into it. Have replaced the k-frame now and bought a ps coupler which is in the mail.  Will get back to the flip gas cap issue shortly and take better pictures.
