Gas leaking from rear outboard carb on six pack
« on: July 21, 2017 - 10:41:26 AM »
Hey gang, back with another one. Just got the heat issue dealt with, and now I've got another problem…suppose it’s the nature of the beast!

I was running the car in my garage with the baseplate and air cleaner off, and I just happened to look at the rear outboard, and I noticed a fuel dripping. Not a ton mind you, just a slow drip. So I’m not taking it out till I get this sorted.

We’d taken out the sight plugs recently to set the floats,  so I figured it might be the sight plug. I tightened it up. No dice. It looks like it’s coming from the underside of the carb. I’ve highlighted in the blue circle roughly the area that it’s coming from.. Now it’s important to note, that I cannot see exactly where it’s coming from, it’s not the "center” of the circle, but further back under the carb . Obviously fluid travels, so I'm really not sure where to look. And it’s pooling where the orange circle is. I'd rather not pull the carb off if I don't have to, anything short of that I should try?

Any thoughts?

Bad news, carb is likely coming off... Good news, the rear cab is the easiest of the three to remove..... Also you have the old style bowl fitting that accepts a smaller wrench )I believe it's 11/16" or possibly 3/4")  It could be just a new gasket but check the surface of the carb where the bowl attaches, they are known for warping.... The four corners where the bowl screws are pull toward the bowl & it leaks in the middle....  !0 minutes with a flat file & all is good...

Cancel that! I found it, it was the float adjustment that was leaking. Must have been coming over the front of the carb, and dripping in the center at the bottom. I ran it for about 30 mins with a drop light on it readjusting the float.  and it was clean as a whistle. Checked both sides multiple times with a tissue and nothing came out.
