    So I was working on my motorcycle in our garage.

     its sort of tight and I was just finishing up working on the bike.....had it up off its side stand after doing some clutch master cylinder bleeding.  Right along side the fish.

    I decided to test the clutch and started the bike...now on this bike to do that you have to have the side stand up...if its in gear, which it was, so I put it up.

    Tested the clutch and all was well.  Shut the bike off and went to get off the bike.

    Forgot I didnt have the side stand down because usually I never put the side stand up when testing just for this very damn reason.

    Well this is the 3rd time in 20 years that I did it.......the other times just my pride was hurt.

    Not so this time.

    Top of the windhshield hit the fedner and creased it....it also gouged the stripe a little.

    My heart hurts and I am pissed.

    Hoping paintless dent removal can fix this.......I have some spots on the car that need rust repair, but I am not ready for a full body paint yet due to budget etc.

    This blows.

    Oh and just yesterday, while moving the fish out of the garage, I dinged the drivers' door on the bike when it was parked on the OTHER side.

    I hate my f-in garage.

    Ugh, dammit !
    Even the "two car garages " are only about 1-1/2 cars when trying to open doors.

    Yeah, this is technically a two car, but its more like a 1.5 car really. two cars is a real stretch.

    what makes it worse is it was my own damn fault.

    I dont drink but I am considering starting now.  :crying:

    I think many here feel your pain, we all have had "those days". I know I have had more than my fair share over the years and completely understand the rage you felt/feel.

    Just to share, yesterday I decided to try and adjust the trunk lid on my Cuda and this is what I got... the only saving grace here is that I am about to repaint it (just painted it last summer.... long story).

    Sorry to see that. My wife did some unintentional but dumb move in the garage. She chipped some paint down to the metal right at the top edge of the rear quarter.  I was pissed and it took me awhile to fix. Now my eyes just focus on that spot because it does not match with the rest of the car.

    A good PDR guy SHOULD be able to get that out, but the stripe will probably need replacement since often they glue pull the dent and the stripe often fails due to it.  :sadwavey:

    I have seen much worse dents taken out with paintless dent removal all done from the inside as long as there is access.

    Thanks for all the support and commiserating.  :)

    I just got back from seeing two PDR guys......one young and one older.

    The younger guy ddint feel comfortable......he said the stripe would definately have to come off and even then he wasnt sure...."older , thicker metal"......"not good leverage"....etc.  Nice enough guy and I am glad he was honest that he didnt feel comfortable.

    The second guy is who the first guy recommended...LOL....fellow around my age and put me very much at ease in a good way.

    Was confident with me....discussed the stripe, said he could do it without removing the stripe but would prefer it off....

    He suggested maybe the stripe could just be peeled back enough for access then reapply....neither of us were sure that would work well since its vinyl.....

    So I have to look into seeing what my options are stripe -wise....I am sure that if I go to Year One etc they only sell the stripes as a kit......wondering if anyone makes them and could make me just one side maybe?

    We also discussed how well the paint will hold up to manipulation….said that if he starts to see any crazing he will heat the paint up and that usually works…said that even if there is a skim coat under the paint we should be ok….he was pretty confident sounding.

    I also was thinking about whether there will be an issue with paint fade --- the paint is 7 or 8 years old.....if the paint not covered by the stripe is faded , I will see that when the stripe is peeled back....and what are the chances of getting a new strip this many years later to match perfectly?

    The good part is the guy quoted me a very reasonable $125, he comes to my garage.  He hit me as a true craftsman...just had that vibe.  He also said he could easily handle the small "whoopsie" tha tpopped up on my left rear quarter when something in the trunk tried getting out....small nipple poking out on the side of the car....LOL

    So, advice/thoughts would be welcome.....

    Anyone know who makes the best stripes for 72 Cudas?  I googled it and there are many listings.....

    LOL   I am that type.....I could EASILY see it going that way if the budget were there...LOL

    If I would have to paint this issue, I think I would just leave it as is until I could do the whole car right.....I would always see a mismatch in paint.  But PDR makes me think its doable. Unless the paint cracks while being PDRd....   :pullinghair:

    The car has some rust pops on the lower door corners and the lower rear quarters that are really bothering me....and the body lines disappear on a couple areas due to the body work the last shop did before I got the car....so who KNOWS what is under there.  I was contemplating how to handle the rust pops for the time being, and then this dent comes up -- the drivers door rust pops look particulary gnarly now since the trip to carlisle so i have to do something.....maybe one of those stick on bullet holes...LOL

    The beauty is if the paint cracks you lay a new stripe & no one sees it.....  If the car spends most of it's time in a garage the fading should be minimal... And the new stripe should hide that too....   If it's base clear there shouldn't be any fading.... As far as fading of the stripe, replace the whole side, you'll never see the difference from side to side...   I know my PDR guy could fix that with no issues... Yes he's older & hence more experienced...

    Yeah its base/clear so I have that going for me.

    Have you ever done one of these stripes?  Wondering if its something i should tackle (and help me redeem myself to myself a little )  or farm that out too?  I have done pin stripes (vinyl) before and that is it....never one this big........

    The good thing about replacing the stripe is that there are a couple of imperfections in the stripe since I got it that replacing the whole side would fix.

    The new stripe will come with the backing paper which is slick & peels easily from the adhesive side of the stripe, the stripe itself & a top protective layer which is semi transparent which helps with positioning the new stripe... When your positioning it keep the adhesive very wet along with the body panel...

    Actually with the existing stripe in place you could lay masking tape directly below the stripe so position with be easy to replicate...  Lots of experienced decal applicators here.....
