Control Arm Bushings
« on: August 02, 2017 - 09:42:53 PM »
On my 72 Cuda, getting some squeaking on the bushings. Should I replace both upper
and lower control arm bushings? Should I upgrade or strengthen any components?
Is there a how-to video?
Thanks
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

I would replace every bushing on the front end. UCA, LCA, Strut rod, and sway bar all at the same time. UCA bushings should be the MOOG offset bushings IMO. And if budget allows, ball joints and tie rods. Then get an alignment with about 3-4* positive caster and forget about your front end for a few years. :2cents:

If you can swing it, get new tubular upper control arms... they can improve original design deficiencies for caster and 'bump steer'...

I put the poly graphite bushings in my Superbee years back and really liked them. They can be a bit stiffer than original rubber though and despite the graphite in them, they still are noisier than original. I'd definitely do the entire job all at once. It's really not that bad and you'll be very happy when you're done.

Be tempting to buy new upper and lower control arms that already have the added strength.
Any brand recommendations?

QA1 sells quality pieces, as do Hotchkis.
My preference would be QA1.  :2cents:
