Tail panel painting
« on: August 29, 2017 - 09:52:46 AM »
Can anyone please show me (photos please) the correct way to mask off the tail panel on a '72 Cuda for applying the Organisol paint?  Where are the lines between color and Organisol?

Thanks!

It doesn't look like the Cudas extend the tail panel paint up under the trunk lid like Challengers do.

Thanks!  So it's just masked all the way around at the edge of the sheet metal roll?

I don't own a Cuda so I'm just going by those pictures. 1970 looks the same although the pictures I saw showed a stainless molding around the black area. Member HooD has a low mile 73. Maybe PM him and ask.

The OP is looking for a 72.  The links posted are for 73's or later based on the rubber 5 mph bumpers and the filler.

Attached is a picture of my smashed 72 with the trim piece removed.  The paint extends down behind the bumper and is masked off behind the trim.

Sorry no other pictures.

Mine is a 73, but I believe the top edge would be similar...

There is a 'lip' formed in tail panel around inside edge of rear quarters, and that lip is also reflected in bottom part of trunk lid lower flat that seal mounts to...

Mine was painted up just over the lip, so I masked off body color edge when I touched up my tail panel...

Here is the pic showing tail panel/lip under quarter and over top of trunk lip...
